I have always lived in-between worlds...east and west, queer and straight, blue collar and white collar, foreigner and citizen, outsider and insider, grit and beauty, confinement and freedom. If art is a hammer, then filmmaking is my sword. You see, I know what is like for my story to be told by others, and for them to tell it wrong. I tell stories to be not “but”...I tell stories be “and”. I’ve always yearned to be seen fully, to be whole, completely. I tell stories to be resilient. I tell stories to build a bridge between the specific and the universal...for I am Queer, Asian American, working class AND I am a brother, sister, lover, friend, and survivor. I will always be the child of Chinese immigrants, scuffling inside the confines of my mother’s sweatshop and father’s take-out restaurant imagining a place that is brighter, more beautiful; searching for a home just beyond my reach...
